We finally came to an end of The Scarlet Letter, the mess is untangled and problems are resolved. Generally I thought this book had a nice story line and plot structure. Although I can see flaws in it, it is nice to have a view of another person's way of writing. Sure enough, Hawthorne had a very unique way of writing. Hawthorne, to me, seems to emphasize a lot on the details of his writing. This creates a very structured out image the reader can receive. However, at times it does get to overwhelming and when that occurs much of the information are mixed up. All in all, I commonly loved this book because of the hidden messages that can be applied to us. These messages and meanings are sometimes hard to find. However, they are what keeps me motivated from reading the book. Sometimes they are simple and sometimes they are complicated. Although I would have like to see the book has a easier flow to it, every book is different and holds a whole new world. Most of the books I remember are the ones I liked a lot or just those that stands out. Of course, this book is one that I will remember because of the unique way it is written in.
Mainly for this final overview, I want to talk about the character "Hester Prynne." Charged for adultery Hester is punished to wear a symbol that would represent her shame. However, unlike the humiliation the Puritans thought they would see, the symbols turns out to be an amazing letter. This, to me, teaches a very deep lesson that I motivates me everyday. The lesson to make good out of every bad situation. For example, although Hester knew she would have to suffer from her crime, she acted positively out of her situation. She turned her punishment into more of a reward. Hester made the symbol "A" into such an amazing sight that it catches everyone's attention. This not only show the positive attitude of Hester, but her bravery. Her bravery to accept the punishment for the person she loved so dearly. Her bravery to keep on going by herself. Her bravery to be withstand the scars and pain she received. Many people try to find fault in her, and misses the very strengths she holds. Hester is a strong, determined woman and I admire her for that. I know where she is positioned must be very hard to comprehend with. When reading a book, I sometimes often try to imagine me in the main character's situation. And I think if everyone just imagined them self in her place they wouldn't have the courage she had. Even at the end Hester is still portrayed as a strong grandmother. She comes back and lives by herself living with her guilt until she passed away.
The Scarlet Letter has been some ride, but now its over. However, it's like one of those vacation trip when you stay to long and you start to miss it. I will never forget the reminder from The Scarlet Letter, it will be my souvenir for the next book I read. However just like Hester showed me, if I look at the "bright" side I have one less homework to worry about.
