This book finally ended, what a relief, less work to do. However, the great thing is that i enjoyed reading this novel, as I walked, sometimes running, along my journey to open a door of a whole new world of Puritans, Hester and Pearl at the scaffold, mystery of the father, torturing one to have pleasure, to their deaths, chapters by chapters. An unfamiliar story emerges of sin traveling from the guilty veins to the innocent is amazing as it developed into pain having to suffered from a mouth that stitches itself closed and betrayal that was seen. This is a great book that cant be missed as it tell us about the main point of view of a Puritan's society: the richness of suffering from sins, shame, guilt, betrayal, and pureness.
I believed the novel ended pretty well with happy endings for all the characters. Hester, who was given a ring that didnt fit and committed adultery, continued to stay with the Puritans when she could have moved away and forget about the shame on her bosom. Most importantly, this tells us how much she apprecitate the incident that had happen for her to find the truth about the love she had with Dimmesdale. We all know that she is a very couragous woman that wont run away from her the sin that she created to hunt her later like Dimmesdale. As for Dimmesdale, although he didnt reveal that he is part of the sin at the beginning, he was able to be relieved from it before his death, and take out that portion of pain to Hester and the Puritans. Despite the fact that death was the solution out for Dimmesdale which is quite foolish, think of the way that instead of dying silently without a trace, he "whispered" who he was. Chillingsworth, the "evil guy" but not clearly, died shortly after Dimmesdale, and this is good enough for him. THis is the end of betrayal, heartaches, and the vibes of jealousy to torture another person. Pearl, the character that has to deal with the shame for no reason, finally flew out of her cage as fast as she could, and designated in Europe, where the ears cant hear and the eyes cant see what is happening in Boston. With assets from Chillingsworth and a noble husband, who can be as happy as she is? It is a good thing that Pearl doesnt have to follow Hester's footsteps of a sinner that will named her the "demon kid" throughout her life. I didnt expect the end to turn out like this; I thought Hester will have to suffer throughout her life or move away that will never turn around and look back.
".. if the dust of the two sleeper had no right to mingle. Yet one tombstone served for both..." At the very end, Hester and Dimmesdale finally get to be together without having to hide like a mouse stealthy snatching a piece of cheese away from the owner that went out of the house. This is like a tragic of two lovers that are not meant to be toegther, to cherish each other this lifetime, but in heaven, like the forbidden love of Romeo and Juliet, although not quite as lovey dovey.
