BLESS! We are finally done with the book! !The story Scarlet Letter was a very interesting read if I do say so myself. It may have been interesting but HATED it! Hawthornes way with words infuriated me! Its like can you please not be so complicated? Google was my best friend while reading this novel because of the complicated vocabulary. The story itself was not that bad if you think about it actually. I just really wished that Hawthorne had used a simpler vocabulary while writing this book. I actually liked 1984 better than this crap book. Although it may be a crap book (my opinion) it did help me on learning something about Puritan Society. The way it was portrayed in this novel according to Hawthorne and his past was displayed as evil. I mean if you look at it from a good perspective it wasn’t even that bad. Just the way he describes it in chapter 2 makes it sound like its bad because of the strict punishment the put on hester of public shame. Although Puritan beliefs were strongly influenced it didn't seem like everyone had agreed upon it. I also didn't think it was fair because Dimmesdale did not face his part of the punishment like Hester had. That is a bad example especially if you are an influential puritan believer like Dimmesdale himself. But at least in the end it was discovered that dimmesdale may not have been publicly displayed for his part of the punishment, however the author did reveal that he had been guilty that he did not confess his sins. But the question is should Hester have confessed his name when they asked who was the father of the child? In my opinion, yes because then she wouldn't have had the burden of the scarlet letter and Pearl on her as much. Maybe then her punishment wouldn't’ even had been that harsh because she would have shared the blame. Then Chillingworth wouldn’t have had a chance to torture Dimmesdale. The story could have gone way better if she had just confessed Dimmesdale's name. Honestly I didn’t really think there was a purpose to this story other than teaching the ways of a puritan society. To shorten this story, Hester was considered an adulterer but she wasn't the only one at fault. She raised a child on her own while Chillingworth had tortured Dimmesdale to the point where he regretted not accepting his fate with Hester and died in the end right after confessing his crime of adultery and showing everyone his scarlet letter. Then in the end the only one who had a happy ending was pearl and kind of Hester because she faced her reality and had learned to live with it. Hawthorne's story was actually not bad I just wished he portrayed the Puritan society in both negative and positive perspective. Even though I hated this book and I hated doing these blog posts even more, I got through it. So take that Scarlet Letter!
